Founded in 1897, The Royal Automobile Club has private member’s clubs in Pall Mall, London and Woodcote Park in Surrey, set on a 350 acre estate. The food as you may expect is highly considered and so too are their considerations on quality of ingredients and sustainability. Head Chef Matthew Marshall personally visits his suppliers like Portwood Asparagus Farm in Norfolk when deciding where to source his produce from. As a restaurant photographer, it’s always a pleasure to photograph food, but of course the process is far easier when the food looks as beautiful as the food the RAC serve.
In the atrium at Pall Mall, there is an ever changing display showcasing a vintage sports car, loaned by members at the club. The fun fact here is that each week the club dismantles the wooden revolving doors to drive the car in from the street. A feat only possible by mere centimetres when edging through the doorway. I on the other hand always struggle to get my huge kit bag through the revolving doors when I come for shoots, and each time I pass through I acknowledge the irony of this situation.
